+ Daniel Faraday is Saving the World by Increments

I'm surprised I haven't spotted anybody else coming up with the same conclusion yet.

Daniel Faraday is a brilliant scientist, and both Widmore and Hawking believe that he will eventually come up with a solution to a problem the island and the world will face. However, it has taken him several lifetimes to accomplish this, and even this time around, he probably doesn't even realize he has found the solution... or possibly even what the true problem is.

Daniel's journal is the key to success. Eloise gave it to him as he began his journey as a scientist. He was amazed to see the information it contained, the ways in which the writer's thoughts seemed to parallel, even anticipate his own lines of thinking. Over the years, he added new ideas, new discoveries to this journal. He took it with him when he traveled to the island, continuing to add new information. It was with him when he traveled back in time to 1974, and joined the DHARMA Initiative. He took the journal to Ann Arbor, where he confered with other scientists of the D.I., and continued to add to his journal. He became convinced that he could alter history, and returned to the island, where he attempted to go visit his mother in the past. Unfortunately Kate Austen insisted he bring a gun with him, leading to Daniel tragically being shot to death by his own mother. Eloise realized too late that this was her son, and got his journal off of his dead body. Over the years, as her son grew up, she came to understand the vital importance of Daniel's work, but that it was still not yet complete. Daniel had been close to the solution, but had not yet achieved it. Eloise realized that Daniel's journal is the key to success. Eloise gave it to him as he began his journey as a scientist. The End.

I looked there. You did seem to have a hint of what might be happening, when you wondered if anything was already written in the journal when he got it... but nobody ever followed up on that (until I did). The discussion seemed mostly concerned with whether Daniel himself was CTTing around or not.

The key notion is the idea that the journal has been added to each time it has progressed through its loop.

Ah, gotcha.

I agree. I think Daniel is working a puzzle through time.

Love this idea, sgt! I appreciate that you put so much thought and energy into this. I represent the folks who don't have the time and/or energy to do it, so I'm loving reading this idea.

I like the idea but can't read the whole theory as it has no paragraphs.

That's too bad. It's a great read, imo, if you look past the lack of indentations.

lol. If by "thought" you mean "copy," and by "energy" you mean "paste," I know just what you mean!

Paragraphs are your friend.

Well, maybe not yours.

But they should be.

Did you write somewhere in there that the bomb will go off but the anomaly will essentially eat all the energy released, thus not allowing its destructive force to consume the Island while disabling the anomaly?

Yes, editing it and using paragraphs would be a good idea.

P.S. when I first read the title I thought it said: Daniel Faraday is Saving the World by Arguments.
