I saw this idea in another (non-Lost specific) forum, and I thought I would shamelessly post it here. I also did a quick search here, with no luck--but if need be, please merge with any appropriate thread.

The idea is that Jacob and MiB are two personalities of the same person. One good, one bad. This would explain the lack of a name so far for MiB. It could also explain the loophole. MiB can't kill Jacob because that would be suicide and if Jacob is under the same restrictions as Richard, then he must find someone else to kill him. Not sure how Sayid's stabbing of MiB fits in with this idea, but I'm sure you can help with that. Anything else about the Jacob/MiB relationship that could support this?

I like the idea in general but perhaps not on LOST.

I can imagine a different show in which the inner struggles between the good and bad in a person are presented on a macroscopic level as the fights between two opposite entities/groups.

Also reminds me of a Seinfeld episode in which Jerry's brain was playing chess against his ... ok, nevermind.

Someone proposed this to me within a thread on a different topic. It's kind of gimmicky and would require one heck of a good, plausible explanation as to why Jacob comprises two separate beings. I don't totally hate it, but I just would need a good reason for it to be so.

One problem is that Richard seemed to react to Flocke as if he were a distinct person when he said, "You!?" And then he talked about Jacob, when Richard was having his faith crisis with Hurley, as if he were a distinct person. As he was ranting, you'd think he'd mention that Jacob has a dark side that always wanted to kill everyone. But maybe Jacob hid that secret--the fact that MiB was him, too--from Richard, and Rich just thought MiB was "that crazy homicidal demi-god from the lagoon" all those years.

It is a possible theory .

a bit like that Trek episode .

Dogan said we all have good and evil in us , maybe Jacob was trying to rid himself of his evil side and accidentally created another persona containing all that evil .
