[Vitriol]

I've been digging these guys since I saw them with TV On The Radio a year or so ago. They've been making kick ass neo soul garage rock for over a decade.

They pretty much kick started the whole Detroit garage rock revival back in the late 90s and have been called "the best band you've never heard of" by Pitchfork. Their first album Ultraglide In Black was a minor success on indie/college radio and Little Steven of the E Street Band (also Little Steven's Underground Garage) has called them "the coolest band ever". Ultraglide In Black is comprised of all soul covers remade as garage rock. It is transcendent stuff. Here is my favorite track from the album and quite possibly the most rocking song ever:



Their cover of Stevie Wonder's Living For The City is just fantastic. Unfortunately it is not available on youtube.

They've released quite a few albums and EPs but the one you should all be listening to is Dangerous Magical Noise. It is phenomenal. They somehow capture the sheer glee of Otis Redding and mix it with The Stooges. The fact that they have a black singer with an incredible voice helps immensely.

They've even had a documentary made about them called "It Came From Detroit" which also details the evolution of rock music through the history of Detroit.
